In my role as project assistant intern, I participated in the projects below:
1- POWER-Protect Women from Economic shock and fight against HIV in Africa: Sponsored by the University College London (UCL) and co-implemented by RENATA and Johns Hopkins Cameroon, the research project aims to better understand the behaviour of adolescent young girls and women and identify a new approach to reduce STIs and prevent HIV/AIDS
I worked as an interviewer in this research project where my responsibilities were as follows: Conducted interviews for female sex workers through questionnaires after obtaining their informed consent, Organized Focus Group Discussion, Identified participants with trauma and referred them to CBOs for proper follow-up, Prepared Terms Of References for field activities and wrote activity reports
2- Breast ironing Knowledge Attitudes and Practices (KAP): Funded by the Catholic University of Italy and co-implemented with IRESCO, the project main goal is to reduce the prevalence of breast among women with at least one daughter aged from eight to fifteen in targeted communities in Cameroon
I worked on this project as a peer leader and my responsibilities were as follows: Drew up schedules for peer educators and held daily debriefing sessions with them to identify problems encountered and discuss corrective measures, Conducted door-to-door sensitization aimed at disproving the believes about breast ironing, Organised community meetings with the target populations to sensitize them on the negative consequences of breast ironing both on health and psychology, Sensitized women on the alternative methods to protect young girls and the different pregnancy control and menstruation, Distributed of bras to adolescent young girls, Wrote monthly reports
3- CHAMP Project- Continuum of prevention, care, and treatment of HIV/AIDS for the Most-At-Risk Populations funded by PEPFAR/USAID and implemented CARE Cameroon the project aim at to improve and expand HIV/AIDS services for Key Populations which are commercial sex workers and men who have sex with men and other vulnerable populations
I worked as a psycho-social counsellor and my responsibilities were as follows: Drew up project action and work plans, Gave pre- and post-counselling to participants before and after the examination, Put participants on treatment in sanitary centres if ever they were texted HIV positive, and gave them proper follow-up, Convinced and put vulnerable populations on PREP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), Drafted weekly and monthly reports
4- CHILL (Community HIV/AIDS Investment for Healthier and Longer Lives) project has as objective to reduce sexually transmitted infections and HIV/AIDS, also identify people living HIV/AIDS through micro testing and put them on treatment
The CHILL project is sponsor by USAID, Implemented by CHP (Care Health Program) I worked as a CMC (charge of mobilization if the community)
5- IBBS (Integrated Bio-Behavioural Survey), is an integrated biological and behavioural study conducted by CARE Cameroon in symbiosis with key population: Sex Workers, Men who have sex with Men, Users of Drugs, Injecting Drugs Users and Transgender
This project is supported by government partners such as the Ministry of Health, the DROS and the CNLS as well by global partners called the Global Fund and France expertise
Implementing partners CARE, CAMNAFAW and community based organisations (CBOs), technical assistance and that of SOLTHIS France which would also play their part
